Typically from a group that hails from the same country as oddball mavericks Björk and Sigur Ros, Iceland's Múm are a fascinatingly different proposition. Although fundamentally an electronica-focused group, these songs resound with an innocent, fairy-tale like quality; this impression emphasised by the use of child-like vocals in the style of Boards Of Canada. Blessed with the warmth and heart that made Minotaur Shock's 'Chiff Chaffs & Willow Warblers' album such an unexpected delight, lovely tunes of the ilk of 'Don't Be Afraid, You Have Just Got Your Eyes Closed' speak of undiscovered fantasy lands. It's like listening to the workings of a well-used machine that clicks, crackles, whirrs and squelches its way through an hour of curiously attractive music. Yet underneath all the experimentation there's a tuneful, human heart.
