More post-rock from Iceland courtesy of The Album Leaf. Yet this time, the main instigator is Irishman Jimmy LaValle, perhaps best known for his work with Tristeza and The Black Heart Procession. LaValle uses a crop of Icelandic musicians including members of Sigur Ros and Múm and calls in Black Heart Procession's Pall Jenkins as a guest. The key aim seems to be to create warm, ambient soundscapes. If that is the case, it's mission accomplished, for 'In A Safe Place' is dominated by pretty melodic instrumentals which comfort rather than excite. 'Over The Pond' is Múm-by-numbers but 'The Outer Bank' is comparable to Mice Parade's excellent 'Obrigado Saudade' and 'Eastern Glow' - easily the most arresting track on offer - adds some much needed urgency. It all results in an inessential but well-produced brand of cosy post-rock.
