The title of Explosions In The Sky's latest album and the fact that they are a post-rock band suggests a possible irony is afoot. These records tend to be rather bleak, consisting of plangent guitar chords which slowly work their way in to a doomy yet glorious finale. As usual lyrics are not required but at a running total of forty-five minutes this is the genre in relatively concise mode, even if only five instrumentals are featured. It is hard to recommend one track above another; most of them being a lighter and more tuneful variation of Godspeed! but it's still good music, intricately constructed and deeply evocative.
