A key element to succeeding as a solo instrumentalist seems to be to develop an avatar for different projects. On those terms, Your Favourite Horse AKA Acceleradeck AKA Chris Jeely must be very successful indeed. Success in sales is not entirely beyond Jeely but 'Everyday Magic' is a rather muted affair with Vini Reilly-meets-Jim Reid vocals adding more layers of melancholy to songs that are melancholic enough already. All the same, the effect can be quite exquisite on 'Sunshower' where Jeely's acoustic guitar and reverb hint at Joy Division levels of emotional desolation. More of the same follows interspersed with warped loops and cut-up electronica a la early Piano Magic, culminating in another outstanding moment of clarity with the kaleidoscopic glimmer of 'Up'. Overall, an interesting side project for a prolific artist.
