Thanks to his annually-released compilation, Jon Attwood ensures that Yellow6 fans get at least one decent present at Christmas. In 2005, though, the question is would he opt for a return to his solo instrumental output or reuse the vocal talents of Ally Todd, who proved to be a perfect foil for Attwood's eerie soundscapes. Since most of this work pre-dates 'Melt Inside' though, 'Merry6mas2005' is wholly the work of Attwood. So what we hear is nearly eighty minutes of caressed percussion, langourous guitars and masses of reverb. 'My Atlas' portrays his love for the similarly-styled Charles Atlas and the echoes of Bark Psychosis atmosphere surround the minimalist 'Tre 3' and the more intricate 'May_b'. Yet for all the references, it's haunting, elegant masterpieces such as 'Nimis' and 'The Beautiful Season Has Passed' that linger longest in the memory. Once again, these so-called "unfinished" and "sloppy" instrumentals demonstrate that Attwood is not only prolific but also wrongly dismissive of his own work.
