There is a theory that a band's first single is often their greatest. It remains to be seen whether Blackbud will surpass 'Hearbeat' but it stands out as one of the better efforts ever to result from a collision of those frequently-used influences Jeff Buckley and Radiohead. With a passionate delivery from frontman Joe Taylor and an inspired 'Creep'-like guitar break, the song deserves to be a hit and promises much for the future for this West Country trio. It would be asking a lot for them to match it on the extra tracks featured here and sure enough they fall short. 'Steal Away' and 'Corner Of The World' don't lack passion but lack the hooks; making them solid, B-side fare. Still, for 'Heartbeat' alone they already have one great moment in their fledgling career.
