Electrons EP

Album Reviews
Volta is the chosen alias for Denis Wolter, a German-born electronica artist. This five-track EP is an instrumental affair but its modern, melodic sound suggests an artist who could well go on to make intelligent, deeply satisfying electronic music for years to come.

'Time Passes' possess a clean, retro-futurist sound and the title track is a collection of clipped beats, beginning with echoes of Depeche Mode before it explodes into a flurry of digital melody and haunting background noise. 'Meer' has a haunting quality too but this time it's to the fore as ghostly walls of choral effects form an elegiac centrepiece. 'Meer' then neatly segues into 'Voltesque', an atmospheric, insiduous little number which evokes a lonely night in outer space. Wolter has created his own little mysterious world and it's one which is creative, tuneful and always fascinating.
