If 808 State and Cornelius should ever collaborate the results would probably sound like Sweet Trip's latest album. Which means lots of melodic techno and engaging yet warped ideas. There are some glorious technicolour moments here with the group's mainman "Roby" drawing on his familiarity with breakbeats, techno and drum and bass but allying it with a pop savvy and that's the key to this excellent record. The buzzsaw guitar pop of 'Dsco' and 'Chocolate Matter' demonstrate an apttitude for the short and sweet but the best moments are usually reserved for the longer tracks, dreampop pastiches 'Fruitcake And Cookies' and 'Sept' are stretched out for maximum blissful effect and 'Dedicated' hits on the warmest of grooves. In short, this is what the overrated M83 album should have been.
