One of the archetypal indie albums from the turn of the decade into the 1990's, The Stone Roses's eponymous offering still sounds as fresh and exciting as it did when it was originally released. Their subsequent downfall was a sad waste but for now we should enjoy the offerings on display here. The opening trio of 'I Wanna Be Adored', 'She Bangs The Drums' and 'Waterfall' plus 'I Am The Resurrection' are all anthemic and possess enormous self-confidence and most importantly they were more original than Oasis. 'Don't Stop' sounds great even though it's a tune played backwards and although the mid-section of this re-release is toned down a little; it would take a philistine not be charmed by Alan Wren's shuffling, funky drum rhythms, Gary Mountfield's indie bass, John Squire's inspired guitar licks and Ian Brown's insouciant vocals.
