We are led to believe that this is the very last album by one of the most popular exponents of 90's alternative rock music. 'MACHINA''s major shift from 1998's 'Adore' is the return of the once-disgraced but now fully invigorated drummer Jimmy Chamberlin which signals a return to their heavier, pounding rhyhtms of old but retaining their gift for melody which had become more prevalent on their previous album. As is the norm with their albums things do get a bit bloated and over the top during the course of 70 minutes with preposterous titles still as apparent as ever ('Glass And The Ghost Children' and 'The Crying Tree Of Mercury') but this is still a strong album with lighter tracks such as 'Try, Try, Try' breaking up the heaviness of the majority of the album and after the excellent opening salvo of 'The Everlasting Gaze', Raindrops + Sunshowers' and 'Stand Inside Your Love' that's just what's needed. As swansongs go this is a highly credible one.
