Peter J. Croissant is the voice of Sine Star Project, a singer blessed with the rich vocal range of a Billy Mackenzie or a Scott Walker and one who similarly strives to straddle the line between serious torch singer and the world of high camp. On the evidence of 'Blue Born Earth Boy' it's a close call but much of the problem can be put down to the occasionally heavy-handed instrumentation which shifts away from a recognisable tune far too many times to make this a coherent first album. Croissant is given far better service when the arrangements are simpler and - as a result - he seems far more committed to the song. 'Blood Light' is the mere definition of brooding, the title track settles into a natural groove whilst 'Wolf River' is a strong tear-stained ballad. Yet at the times when Croissant's attention seems to wander, it's hard for the listener not to do likewise.
