Belfast's Primitive Painters begin their 'Armadillo In The Snow' EP with a title track, which is straight out of the vintage Orbital school. Next is the rather ominously titled 'Mantra' but it's no monotonous 10-minute epic for them, a thunderous bass thud signals the beginnings of an acid house/techno pastiche. 'Peoples Parasite' is more sublime and is redolent of the euphoric territory from 808 State's career. 'Foetal Attraction' covers roughly similar ground but races along like a speeding train on techno rails, if such a thing were possible. So that's it; old ground covered in respectable fashion. Now they have demonstrated their influences they will need to develop their own ideas a little more but this will do fine for now.
