There can be few more minimalist openings than on Oren Ambarchi's 'Grapes In The Estate'. For 'Corkscrew', far from being a thrilling rollercoaster ride, is a mixture of static, sparse, resonated guitar strings and very little else. 'The Girl With The Silver Eyes' is a little fuller-sounding; caressed cymbals here, a distant hammond organ swell there and what appears to be a harp forming a more tangible melody. 'Remedios The Beauty' incorporates bells and strings whilst the finale 'Stars Aligned, Webs Spun' employs bells again but this time played with metronomic timing. In many ways 'Grapes From The Estate' will satisfy fans of Labradford 'E Luxo So' album but it's likely that musicians rather than actual music listeners will appreciate Ambarchi's work more.
