Norfolk may not be the most fashionable inspiration for one of the most talked about electronica albums of the year but it is infact the county in the East of England which informs the debut long player from Nathan Fake. Fake's trick is to take in a lot of moods and textures along the way so it is unlikely the listener's interest will ever wane whilst interweaving his lush instrumentals with a tangible, human quality. On the one hand there's huge synth washes of melody (think M83 but with more genuine feeling) which reach a dazzling "out there" peak on 'The Sky Was Pink' and 'Long Sunny' but these ecstatic moments are punctuated by far more mysterious affairs such as 'Charlie's House' and 'You Are Here' which are perhaps more Norfolk Broads than Boards Of Canada. Above all, this is the story of one man's childhood beautifully evoked for us all to enjoy.
