No Light Left EP

Album Reviews
'No Light Left' is the new EP from up and coming Manchester band Lisa Brown. They're not a typical Mancunian band though, instead this foursome are more concerned with subtleties and restrained power. Lead-off track 'Reverie' is made up of a galaxy of pretty guitar textures until - four minutes in - the guitars get louder and begin to echo; proving that they are not part of the usual whey-faced indie rock scene. The chiming chords of 'Snowfight In The City Centre' conjure up suitably seasonal images and then this sound too is usurped by a grandstand finale of distorted layers. Perhaps best of all is the title track which maintains a sense of urgency throughout; the line "Angels and ghosts are gonna skin you alive" a fine example of their spiritual yet often threatening intent. Naturally these are just three tracks and an album will be the true mark of their abilities but they do not put a foot wrong here.
