The Function Records label appears to be a haven for lovers of older school punk bands. One such group are label founders Lebatol who emerge with a 4-track EP that is pleasingly varied and complex. The title track to 'Circo Russo' is a heads-down grinding rock beast with appropriate growled vocals from frontman Shane Billingham. 'Sortie' is a surprising (but not unwelcome) detour into post-rock featuring some delicious melancholic guitar; it's apocalyptic but melodic at the same time. 'Tremolo Fixator' is another fine tune, this time with an added aggression factor. 'Spectator N.Y.' is the most generic and disposable of the four tracks but all in all, this is energetic and intelligent punk music that is well worth twenty minutes of anyone's time.
