Faking The Books

Album Reviews
Slowly but surely the Berlin-based record label Morr Music has established a reputation for producing top quality melodic electronic acts. Styrofoam and Mum are amongst their most successful artists and so are Lali Puna who have been releasing records under Morr since the company's inception. 'Faking The Books', their third album teeters on the edge of something special but falls short of overall excellence. 'Micronomic' and 'B-Movie' possess a grounding in post-punk guitars which is countered with catchy pop hooks whilst 'Call 1-800-Fear' and 'Grin And Bear' make the best use of their tastes for a Krautrock groove. Yet on other occasions the songwriting is less addictive and Valerie Trebeljahr's typically blank vocals are in no position to save them from obscurity. At times very impressive but their thunder has been stolen a little by Styrofoam's last album.
