Despite being marketed as a collaborative audio-visual release, the strength of the musical side of The Dead Texan is so strong that the accompanying DVD is like an added extra. The Dead Texan are actually (one-half of Stars Of The Lid) Adam Wiltzie and visual artist Christina Vantzos. The CD is another record which transcends the worlds of classical and ambient creating pieces of music that satisfies requirements for lovers of minimalism, melodies and emotions. Always atmospheric, the arrangements tend to swell and then subside with almost effortless grace. A piano is duly tinkled on 'When I See Scissors' and a steel guitar emerges on 'Beatrice Part 2'. The DVD itself contains seven separate "promos" which - via the use of video recordings and animation - brings colour that offers pleasing accompaniment to the instrumentals. Yet whichever way the listener chooses to listen to the music, it's hard not to be moved by it.
