Album Reviews
The story behind Buildings Breeding is an unusual one. This was a name for a fake band dreamed up by Californian Chris Larsen whose songs were originally based around love letters for his paramour Melanie Glover. Thanks to a lot of interest in the myspace site, the band soon became a reality and this self-titled effort is the result.

Not unexpectedly, Glover and Larsen seem pretty loved up. 'Stacking Up Reasons' features the kind of guitar melody often favoured by The Field Mice but with Larsen's vocals indebted to a frazzled kind of Americana. On 'Emmawood', Glover is the epitome of sweetness and 'Little Drummer Girl' possesses a very hummable chorus. Occasionally these shorts songs ('In My Hands' especially) can be mistaken for insubstantial whimsy. Then again, some tracks are stark and haunting like 'Youth Is All That's Left' or the eerie harmonies for 'Beesting'. So all told, not bad considering this could be a set of songs only the sickly sweet could love.
