A new name on the roster of the Make Mine Music label, All Sides is the solo outlet for German instrumentalist Nina Kernicke. In keeping with the MMM penchant for electronic/ambient music, Kernicke fits in well with her instrumental work, which is high on chilly atmosphere and low on bombast. 'Lost' appears to be the sound of wintry wind accompanied by electro-static. 'Vela' adopts a Krautrock groove and nightmarish effects and the theme of suggested menace cotinues with the slick 'Where's My Gun?'. Delving further into this half-hour EP, nods are made to Vladislav Delay on 'When You Took Me Out Of The Water'. Yet, overall, it is the contrast between the serene and the violent which makes Kernicke's first outing such a fascinating journey.
