Hailing from the seaside town of Brighton, Air Formation are the latest act on the Club AC30 label to celebrate the shoegazing movement. Although this is a scene often derided by music snobs, the best records of the genre were capable of providing a rare sense of beauty and other-worldliness without the listener having to resort to any drug intake. This EP is unlikely to change anyone's mind about shoegazing but should at least please the fans of Ride or Slowdive. 'Never Far Away' is a little dirgey but 'Ghosts' impresses as some cool vocals float over a wash of guitar effects and the other two tracks are alive with portentous and stately content. Whereas labelmates Televise and Sambassadeur opt for the more hook-filled approach, this is more for the chilled-out moments.
